RETIREMENT BENEFITS

Employees of Summit DD are required to participate in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System or the State Teachers Retirement System as applicable. (Employees do not contribute to Social Security; however, they are required to contribute to Medicare.) In addition to retirement benefits, PERS/STRS provides other benefits such as disability retirement, survivor benefits, health insurance for retirees, etc. Summit DD contributes 14% of earnings while an employee contributes 10% of earnings on a per-pay basis.

PAID TIME OFF BENEFITS

Sick Time – Board employees earn paid sick leave at the rate of 4.6 hours (15 days) for each eighty hours of service completed. Sick hours are granted for illness or injury of the employee or a member of their immediate family for health-related care and appointments. An employee who transfers from another public agency may be credited with the unused balance of the employee’s accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of 1,000 hours. On an annual basis (11/15-12/15) employees may convert, without limit, accumulated but unused sick leave to cash at the rate of fifty percent (50%) of its current value.

Vacation Time – Non-bargaining unit employees shall be eligible for vacation pursuant to their employment contract; bargaining unit employees shall be eligible for vacation pursuant to their collective bargaining agreement. Previous service with a public agency will be counted in computing vacation leave credit for newly hired eligible employees. Employees may carryover vacation to a maximum of three (3) years’ credit. Any credit more than three (3) years will be forfeited. On an annual basis (11/15-12/15), employees may convert accumulated but unused vacation leave to cash in accordance with policy or pursuant to their collective bargaining agreement.

Personal Time – Non-bargaining unit employees shall be eligible for three (3) days of Personal Time on January 1st of each year to be used during the same calendar year or forfeited. Bargaining unit employees shall be eligible for Personal Time pursuant to their collective bargaining agreement.

Holidays – The Board recognizes the following as paid holidays for eligible employees: Martin Luther King Day; Memorial Day; Juneteenth; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; Day after Thanksgiving; Winter Break (five consecutive work days off, exclusive of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Volunteer Time – Upon approval, employees may be paid during regular work hours up to the equivalent of one (1) regular workday each year to participate in an endorsed/sponsored volunteer opportunity. Volunteer time does not carry over.
